Desoto
Falls

MENTONE, AL

One of the tallest waterfalls in the state of Alabama with swimming areas above and below. Above the falls are mosaic art stairs leading to the waterfall overlook. There is a public swimming area and kayak rentals available by the parking lot. Before you get to Desoto State Park, there is a small parking area at the trailhead that goes to the bottom of the falls. You will need to get there early to claim a parking spot. Take the pink trail down to the bottom of the falls to swim or hangout.

Cloudland Canyon State Park

RISING FAWN, GA

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and beautiful canyon and mountain views. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek. The most spectacular view into the canyon is found near the picnic area parking lot; however, additional views can be found along the rim trail. Hardy visitors who hike to the bottom of the gorge find two waterfalls cascading over layers of sandstone.

State Park

FORT PAYNE, AL

3,502-acre park with over 30 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails. There is also an ADA boardwalk trail located within the park. Kids will enjoy the zip line course for their next adventure. Stop in at the welcome center to grab car stickers, map, and learn more about Desoto State Park. If you are here in the Fall, look for dates for the Creative Spirit Market.

James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park

SUMMERVILLE, GA

A top pick when hiking and traveling with kids. Kids enjoy the playground, feeding ducks from the lake’s boardwalk and renting pedal boats. Surrounded by rural countryside and the Chattahoochee National Forest, this quiet park in northwest Georgia offers fishing on two stocked lakes. After hiking to an old marble mine with small waterfall, plus lake loop trails, visitors can relax in swings. The trailhead to long-distance Pinhoti Trail is a 1.6-mile hike away.

Little River Canyon
National Preserve

FORT PAYNE, AL

Grace's High Fall is the tallest waterfall in the state of Alabama which is located within the Little River Canyon National Preserve. The 15,288-acre Preserve is home to rare and threatened plant and animal life like the Blue Shiner. Below the parking lot of the canyon, there is an overlook or you can take the trail down to the Hippie Hole to cool off on a hot summer day. Expert level kayakers often kayak down the whole length of the falls which is quite the sight to see.
